Biomass boiler and solar thermal installation create dream eco home

Ryan and his wife approached Lime-Circle as they wanted a heating solution that was not only efficient but also slotted in with their desire to become greener as a family.

The husband-and-wife fighter pilot team were in search of a country property to renovate and transform into their dream home. Eventually, the couple found their idyllic country home in North Nottinghamshire. The only downside to this property was the greedy, inefficient oil boiler with accompanying unsightly oil tank.

Due to the size and nature of the property, after our site survey we recommended  a biomass heating system broken down into zones to deliver heat at a reasonable price.

Creating a separate room for the heating unit

We placed the boiler and all heating ancillaries within a small room to the side of the property. When installing a new heating system we strongly suggest creating a mini plant room to house the essential heating units. This allows easy access for any future system changes, repairs, maintenance and fault finding.

Included in our renewable system design is a 300ltr twin coil solar hot water tank which, when coupled with solar thermal panels, will provide the majority of the family’s hot water during the warmer months. Solar thermal panels are included in the government’s RHI scheme with a tariff rating of 19.7 pence.

This will give Ryan and his family an extra income of £800 – £1,000 a year for seven years and will reduce the running hours of the boiler massively.
